The Komodo Process

What's it like to work with Komodo?

Hiring a consultant to “get more value out of your data” can seem like an uncertain and possibly risky endeavor.  Here at Komodo, we follow a process that ensures we're identifying the right opportunities for our clients and only building solutions that have been thoroughly tested for feasibility and profitability.  We build in checkpoints at the start to incorporate client feedback through the life of the project.  Our process ensures that our quality is consistent, and that our client knows what to expect in working with us.

If you're considering working with us, we want to make sure you know that process,.  This blog post outlines Komodo's process and gives an overview of what an engagement with our consultancy looks like.  While each client is unique and what happens in each phase is adapted to the individual project, our projects generally follow this 3-phase structure.

Phase 1. Exploratory Data and Business Analysis

This phase focuses on laying the groundwork for building an impactful solution. Komodo uses this phase to establish technical and business capabilities, goals, and requirements.

During the set-up and initial assessment, Komodo will:

  • Set up data access protocol

  • Perform a deep dive into client’s existing data and code base to look for AI and ML opportunities

  • Interview key stakeholders to understand the business and its challenges

  • Surface business constraints, preferences, and priorities so that we can build solutions that work with the business

  • Establish what outcomes would be actionable and valuable for the company

At the conclusion of Phase 1, Komodo will have clearly defined the problem in business and technical terms, and identified the requirements for an impactful solution for the client.  This phase ensures that in Phase 2 and 3, Komodo only designs and develops solutions that meet the client’s needs at a technical and business level.

Phase 2: Solution Design

This phase focuses on generating multiple solution concepts based on the initial assessment.  During this phase, Komodo will design multiple frameworks to address the problem identified in Phase 1, and receive feedback from the client to refine their designs.

During Solution Design, Komodo will:

  • Use analytics to gather insights on domain and problem

  • Generate ideas for how to solve the problem

  • Perform analysis to determine impact and costs of ideas

  • Create solution designs for stakeholders to review

  • Gather feedback from stakeholders to refine solutions

At the conclusion of Phase 2, Komodo and the Client will have tested multiple solution concepts and identified the most promising solution and concepts  to develop into prototypes in Phase 3.

Phase 3: Development and Iteration

This phase focuses on developing the most promising concepts from phase two into functioning prototypes and solutions for iteration and client feedback.

During this Development and Iteration phase, Komodo will:

  • Design prototypes that verify feasibility of solutions designed

  • Iteratively improve solutions based on feedback and usability testing

At the conclusion of Phase 3, the client will have a functioning solution design that has been tested for its feasibility and economic value.  At that point the client may choose to implement the production version of the solution on their own, or may hire Komodo as an implementation partner to deploy solutions into production.
